For our third anniversary (yay!), Tsutomu and I took a road trip to Sunny (and not stupid hot like Arizona) California to go camping. We had never been camping together before, but had been wanting to for a long time. So we made lists and lists and took plenty of trips to the store the week before (yes we only decided to do this 1 week beforehand). For being amateur married campers, everything turned out quite perfectly. Thank you camping section of Pinterest and the internet in general for preparing us.
So here is a brief(ish) synopsis of our weekend:
Luckily, I had Friday off of work because I work for a super cool company that gives me lots and lots of Fridays off, so we left Friday morning. This was Rosie's first road trip. I think she looks pretty content! Look at her leaning on her elbow like a peoples... Silly girl! (And yes I don't have children, so most of these pictures are of my dogs).
Unfortunately this was a 10 hour drive for us. We can get to any old beach in about five hours from Phoenix, but most of the camping spots are reserved way before summer even starts and as I mentioned earlier we only planned this a week ahead of time. But it worked out really well because we all loved Pismo Beach and plan on that being our official camping location! Pismo Beach is supposed to only take 8 hours to get to, but of course we had to pass through LA traffic. This first glimpse of the ocean makes it worth braving all those stupid LA drivers, though, don't you think?
Here is our cute little camp site:
And the pretty blue birds that liked to hang out in the trees nearby. We think they are King Fisherman.
And can you believe someone doubted my ability to make campfires...geesh!
And because we were celebrating, we decided to bring out the bubbly (apple cider) and drink it from our awesome camping wine glasses...fancy!
The first night we made the dogs sleep in the car cause it was way too hot with all of us in the tent. Here they are cuddling, and look at Rosie's squished nose!
And what camping trip is complete with out S'mores?!
So it looks like we are just here having a nice camping trip up in the mountains or something right? All trees and grass and wildlife and whatnot. But what is this? It looks like a trail!
A trail made of sand???
And after only a few minutes of walking you reach this little hill. What could possibly be on the other side?
Wait - is that...?
Yep it's the ocean!
And the doggies sure loved it!!
Sarge normally hates all water and will avoid baths/puddles/pools/rain/wet grass at any cost. So we thought he would have nothing to do with the ocean. Boy, were we wrong. He just bolted in as soon as he saw it and refused to leave. He loved it!
Rosie liked it, too, but also loved getting nice and warm afterwards while soaking up some rays.
We even found a live sand dollar on the beach. I never even knew they were living creatures before...
The surrounding little community was so much fun! Who doesn't love to see horses on the beach?
We especially loved this little shop:
And this place had most amazing burgers and fish and chips!!
So there is our weekend in a nutshell. We camped and chilled by the beach and did it all again. All the while we ate way too many roasted marshmallows and salt water taffy. It was so much fun! I was exhausted when we got back, but it was worth it. We can't wait to go back. If anyone ever wants to camp by the beach I highly recommend Pismo!
And in conclusion, here are some pictures that just are just too good not to share:
"Baywatch, here we come!"
Sunsets at the beach are the best.
Happy Anniversary to us! Here's to an eternity more!
